Google Search Console Now Shows Your AI Visibility — Available Worldwide
What happened
Google has rolled out its new AI performance reports in Search Console to all websites worldwide, as of 31 August 2026. The reports — first announced in June — show how often your site appears inside Google's AI-generated search features, including AI Overviews and AI Mode.
The reports track impressions by page, country, device, and date. Crucially, they do not yet include click data — so you can see how often your business appears in AI answers, but not how many people clicked through.
Alongside the reports, Google has also added an opt-out toggle. Business owners can now choose to block their site from appearing in AI Overviews, AI Mode, and AI features in Discover entirely. Google says opting out will not affect your rankings in standard search results.
What this means for tradespeople
If you're a plumber, electrician, or builder with a website, Google's AI is already answering questions that used to send people to your site. Queries like "how much does a boiler replacement cost" or "best roofer near me" increasingly get answered by AI Overviews — sometimes without the searcher ever clicking through to your website.
These new reports let you see whether your site is being used in those AI answers. If your impressions are zero, it means Google's AI is answering questions in your area and your site isn't being referenced — which is a signal to improve your content.
For most tradespeople, leaving the opt-in on makes sense. Even without clicks, being cited in AI answers builds visibility with potential customers.
What to do about it
- Log in to Google Search Console and look for the new "Generative AI" performance report in the left sidebar
- Check which pages are appearing in AI features — these are the pages Google considers authoritative enough to cite
- If you see zero impressions, focus on creating helpful, specific content that answers common questions homeowners ask about your trade
- Keep collecting Google reviews — your review profile influences whether AI recommends your business in local queries
