Checkatrade Now Available Inside ChatGPT — Consumers Can Find and Book Tradespeople via AI

Checkatrade launched an app inside ChatGPT in April 2026, letting UK consumers find and book vetted tradespeople directly within OpenAI's chatbot. It's one of the first trade-services integrations inside a major AI platform.

A consumer describes their job and location in ChatGPT. For straightforward work like TV mounting, the app asks qualifying questions, then offers a fixed price and a vetted local tradesperson — bookable without leaving the chat. For larger jobs, it returns a list of suitable Checkatrade members to contact for quotes.

The integration was announced on Checkatrade's blog and reported by Installer Online and other trade outlets. It sits alongside Checkatrade's wider AI push, which includes TradeMore, a free AI-powered job management tool launched to all UK tradespeople in September 2026.

What this means for tradespeople

This is a signal of where customer discovery is heading. BrightLocal's 2026 survey found that 45% of consumers now use AI tools to find local businesses — up from just 6% in 2025. If that growth continues, AI chat interfaces could become a meaningful source of trade leads within the next 12–18 months.

For Checkatrade members, the integration is automatic — your profile feeds the ChatGPT results. But for the majority of UK tradespeople who aren't on Checkatrade, the takeaway is broader: AI tools pull from structured, review-rich business data. That means your Google Business Profile, your review count, and your review recency all matter more than ever.

Google's own AI Overviews already synthesise review data when answering local search queries. The pattern is consistent: AI systems reward businesses that have complete, well-reviewed profiles.
