Google Now Tells You Exactly Why Your Business Profile Content Was Rejected

Google has started sending more detailed rejection notices when it removes or rejects content on Google Business Profiles. Previously, rejection emails were vague — often just a generic "your content was removed for violating our guidelines" with no specifics.

Now, businesses are receiving emails that explain exactly which piece of content was rejected, why it was removed, and which specific guideline it violated. The change was first spotted by Claudia Tomina, a Google Diamond Product Expert, who shared an example where Google explicitly stated why a client's appointment link was removed and cited the relevant policy.

"Providing clear, actionable feedback on automated rejections is exactly what should happen," Tomina wrote. "It saves hours of troubleshooting and allows businesses to fix compliance issues instantly instead of guessing."

What this means for tradespeople

If you've ever had a Google Business Profile post, photo, or link quietly disappear with no explanation, this is good news. Instead of spending hours guessing what went wrong — or worse, re-uploading the same non-compliant content and getting flagged again — you'll now get a clear explanation you can act on.

This matters especially for tradespeople who manage their own profiles. Common rejection triggers include photos with text overlays or watermarks, posts containing phone numbers or email addresses, and appointment links that don't meet Google's formatting requirements. With specific feedback, you can fix the issue on the first attempt rather than playing trial and error.

What to do about it

If you receive a rejection notice from Google, read it carefully — it now contains genuinely useful information. Check which guideline was cited and update your content accordingly. If you believe the rejection was made in error, you can appeal through the Google Business Profile appeal process.
